Past and Future Projects of the FOFJC
The Friends of Fairfax Juvenile Court provides funding through scholarships, grants, and donations. The following are some examples projects for which we have provided funding in past years in support of the needs of Fairfax County children.
College Scholarships

FOTFJC has provided partial scholarships for children who have succeeded in the justice system. We have provided funds for students attending NoVa Community College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Maryland Eastern Shore, Christopher Newport University and George Mason University.
Emergency Medical Needs

FOTJDC has provided fund for short term medical needs which may be unable to be met by other programs.
As an example, a child in a detention facility was diagnosed by medical staff poor eyesight. His mother was the family's only provider as the child's father was deported for repeated acts of domestic violence. FOTFJC provided the necessary funds for an optometrist.
Santa's Ride and Children First Holiday Benefit

The Fairfax County police motor squad Santa's Ride program provided holiday gifts for area children in need. Children First also has provided presents including bikes and toys during the holiday season. FOTJDC has provided some financial support for these programs.
School Books, Supplies, and Application Fees

The FOTFDC has provided grants to help pay for books and school supplies for children in need. For instance, we have assisted a child who lacked the funds to apply to take the GED examination. Our organization has also helped supplement budgets for art and educational activities for children present at the Juvenile Detention Center.
Funding for Juvenile Justice Conferences

FOTFJC supports educational programs for staff, judges, counselors, and other stakeholders in the Juvenile justice system. This fall we provided partial funding for the Northern Region Youth Justice Transformation Symposium. This conference sought to advance best practices and produce better and more equitable outcomes for the youth and families encountering our court system.
Emergency Transportation Needs

Often children are separated from support systems, programs, and family members by the lack of available or affordable transportation. FOTFJC has provided short term funding through gift cards, travel vouchers, and bus passes. These requests are evaluated on a case by case basis.
